German School Washington D.C. Honors 4th Grade Scholarship Recipients

German School Washington D.C. awards scholarship to students aged 9-10 in official ceremony for their efforts to cherish the German language and culture.

On Tuesday, June 4, 2013 the German School Washington D.C. honored three new recipients of the Hugo and Herta Mueller Scholarship in an official ceremony in Potomac, MD. The three students aged 9 to 10 were chosen among 14 candidates in a competitive selection process. The scholarship is granted by the D.C.-based Hugo and Herta Mueller Foundation aiming at the advancement of the German language and culture in the U.S.

Head of School Waldemar Gries praised the foundation’s commitment to the school: “It is our school’s central mission to provide young people with the best education possible while familiarizing them with the German language and culture. I appreciate the support of the Hugo and Herta Mueller Foundation in this endeavor and am delighted that three more students are given this wonderful opportunity.“

The proud recipients were able to convince the members of the selection committee in a highly competitive process during the month of March. “The selection committee was impressed by the outstanding achievements of these three students at such a young age. We are proud to contribute our share to the mutual understanding between the U.S. and Germany through this scholarship”, said Gries.
