Lone Oak Elementary visits the Potomac Village Farmers Market
The weather on Thursday was perfect! The sky, clear and azure, the sun bright and warm, the breeze, well perfect!
As the Potomac Village Farmers Market opened its doors (metaphorically speaking), area residents were already lined up at market farm stands ready to purchase a variety of fresh spring produce and fruits. There, at the strawberry table of McCleaf's Orchard were six broadly smiling faces of Lone Oak Montessori students.

Brenda Bitzel of Lone Oak Elementary stood patiently watching as the students looked at the juicy selection of berries before them. Their mission: to buy fresh local vegetables and fruits for their pizza making activity on Friday.
"I really like the students to know where their food comes from before it goes to the super market" said Brenda.

The students really enjoyed learning about how the food they were selecting was grown and interacting with the farmers. When asked what they liked most about visiting the market, one student quickly chimed in "eating the food"!
Hmm, I wonder if the Lone Oaks students opt’d to buy kale or mustard seed salad flowers from Rocklands Farm for their salad on Friday? They are so good and kid-palate-friendly! Well, maybe next time.
In addition to Lone Oak students, there were many visitors to the market yesterday. They included many regulars and many new faces. Margaret Wittels, pictured holding a pint of McCleaf's strawberries, is a long time Potomac resident and a regular.
"I love talking to the farmers," Margaret said.
Francis Bernstein, pictured with Ali of Aliabaad Farm, is holding a gorgeous bouquet of flowers from Carol of Plantmasters. She too enjoys chatting with farmers and business owners and shopping in the open air market environment nestled in Potomac Village.
