Potomac Village Farmers Market: At The Market This Week Aug. 16

A weekly guide to what's new each week at the Potomac Village Farmers Market, taking place every Thursday from 2 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. May through October.

NEW TODAY –  Apples, apples and more apples - Gala, Sansa, Zestar, Ginger Gold’s! Pluots, seedless grapes, massive flavor-filled yellow peaches.

So what exactly is a Pluot? A pluot is a cross between a plum and an apricot.
From my research, it appears that a Pluot takes most of its characteristics
from the plum with the exception that it has a lot more flavor – consistent with
an apricot. Some folks call Pluots Dinosaur Eggs for their speckled skins. Anyone
who has had a Pluot in the past will attest, it's a delightful summer fruit and
worth waiting for its August arrival. How do you know if a pluot is ripe? Like
many fruit, when it gives to pressure and is fragrant, then it's ready to eat. Corey of McCleaf’s is bringing the first of the season to market this week. They are hugely popular and sell out fast so stop by and get your pluots while they last. Remember to pick up an apple or two, too. Hmmm… summer never tasted so sweet. See you Thursday!
