Bells Mill Girl Scouts Earn Prestigious Bronze Award

The 5th grade junior girl scouts from Bells Mill Elementary School set out to earn their Bronze Award by raising awareness of endangered species.

The 5th grade junior girl scouts from Bells Mill Elementary School set out to earn their Bronze Award by raising awareness of endangered species. The Bronze Award is the third highest award in the Girl Scouts of the USA, and is the highest award a junior girl scout can earn. The girls decided to target adults for their outreach efforts as they believe that few adults are aware of or care about these endangered animals. The girls worked together for two months to plan their project and learn about different animals on the endangered species list. The girls each created an original work of art and an informational paper to let people know why the animal is endangered and what people can do to help. They worked in small groups to share their work with their families, their school, and their communities.

Troop Leader Sandra Max congratulated them at a special event held at Visarts in Rockville on Monday night. The troop showcased their art and informed an enthusiastic audience about the animals they had researched. Mrs. Max said the most important lesson the girls learned is that when they work together they can make a real difference.
