Boy Scouts Serve Spaghetti to Community for 52nd Year

Boy Scout Troop 773 is holding their annual spaghetti dinner at the Potomac United Methodist Church on Saturday.

A local Boy Scout troop is continuing a time-honored tradition by serving spaghetti to the community.

For its 52nd year, Boy Scout Troop 773 is holding their annual spaghetti dinner to help raise funds for the troop. The dinner will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the on Saturday.

The troop of about 30 boys from 6th through 12th grade, will be serving the meals to attendees, said Jeanne Richter, a Boy Scout parent and co-chair of the event.

“The boys are excited about it because it seems to be a right of passage for them,” Richter said. “Some of the younger ones serve the food and the older ones show their leadership skills and help greet people as they come in.”

The spaghetti dinner is this active troop’s only fundraiser for the year, which helps buy supplies like tents, stoves and lanterns. Troop 773 has at least one activity each month, which includes outings like kayaking, canoeing, backpacking and doing community service projects, Richter said.

The troop will likely serve about 500 people at the dinner, Richter said. Support from local families, friends and the church’s parishioners help make this event a success, she added.

“It’s become a really nice community event,” Richter said.

Tickets are available at the door and cost is $10 per person for a complete meal including, salad, garlic bread, spaghetti with meatballs, drinks and dessert.
