County Seeking Nominations For Community Service Awards

Do you have a friend or family member who deserves recognition for extraordinary community work and volunteerism?

Montgomery County is looking for nominations for the first annual Montgomery Serves Awards, to be presented Monday, April 30 at . Through these awards, Montgomery County will recognize the commitment and dedication of individuals, businesses, community organizations and youth who have worked to make a positive difference in the county.

The Neal Potter Path of Achievement Award will honor two senior recipients ages 60 and older, whose "accomplishments, enthusiasm and lifelong commitment to volunteer service make them outstanding role models," according to the Montgomery County Volunteer Center website.

Youth service awards for those 18 years old or younger, as well as corporate service awards and a community group service award will be presented.

In addition to the awards selected by public nomination, County Executive Ike Leggett will present the first Roscoe R. Nix Distinguished Community Service Award, established to honor the  work of community activist Roscoe Nix. The award will be presented annually by the county executive to honor an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary community service to the benefit of the Montgomery County community. The first award will be posthumously given to honor Nix for his life of service to the county.
