Potomac River at Fletcher's Cove Gets Groomed

Join the Canal Stewards and the Potomac Conservancy March 4 for the next canal cleanup event

About 24 volunteers come out on a sunny Sunday to clean up trash with the Canal Stewards and the Potomac Conservancy group around Fletcher's Cove just inside Washington, D.C.

A group of Air Force volunteers as well as a number of volunteers from the Mid-Atlantic Hiking Group helped give the cleanup event its largest turnout since September. The day consisted of cleaning up common areas around the park. A few dedicated volunteers also hauled a tire and an entire water tank out of the woods near the river.

"We picked up trash around the picnic area and trails at Fletcher's Cove and ended up with many full bags after our two-hour cleanup session," said Hanna Larson, an outreach intern with the group. "For many of the volunteers, it was their first time at a Potomac Conservancy event, but they expressed enthusiasm and eagerness to give back to their community."
