Potomac UMC Strawberry Festival Opens Saturday

It’s that time of the year again—the is gearing up for the.

This year’s celebration promises more of what has made the event a success for more than 20 years: strawberries, baked goods, local vendors, strawberries, charity donations and more strawberries.

Doors open Saturday at 10 a.m. at PUMC, located at 9908 South Glen Rd. just off Falls Road and Democracy Boulevard. Admission is free and the festivities last until 4 p.m. All proceeds from the Strawberry Festival are donated to charities for women and children. 

Some of this year’s attractions include: 

Vendor Alley—The PUMC Strawberry Festival features a wide variety of unique vendors, such as , Nancy Marshall Home & Fashions, Queen Bee Fashions & Accessories, Buckled To Go, Beverly Rogers Handcrafted Purses, Sharon Nowell Home Portraits, Idhana Designer Fashions and more.

Silent Auction—The Strawberry Festival silent auction is “one of the best in town,” according to PUMC. The auction will span three rooms filled with gift baskets and bid items ranging from sports tickets and vacation packages to restaurant deals.

Bake Sale—The PUMC bake sale features home-baked cakes, pies and cookies. This year the church will also unveil a Cupcake Corner, offering homemade chocolate, espresso, cream-filled and strawberry cupcakes. 

Home Treasures Department—This stop is where you can find savings on an assortment of estate sale items and home furnishings.

Chic Boutique—Shop a selection of fashions for women's and children’s “gently used” brand labels.

Kids' Game Room—Kids won’t be bored while mom and dad shop if they're playing in the festival game room and participating in a cake walk.

Lunch—The festival will offer lunch items such as hot dogs, hamburgers, pulled pork sandwiches and the festival’s most famous attraction: strawberry desserts, including a homemade strawberry shortcake topped with ice cream and homemade whipped cream.

Performances will be given by John Henry, the "Guitar-Playing Man"—a local artist, born in Bethesda, who performs for kids of all ages throughout the Washington, DC, area.
