This Weekend Near Potomac: BBQ Battle, Bourbon Bash, Fete de la Musique

Check out a barbecue battle, skateboarding and "Arrested Development" this weekend in and around Montgomery County and Washington, DC.

National Capital Barbecue Battle 
What: Discover who will be crowned the “National Pork Barbecue Champion” during this two-day event on Pennsylvania Avenue between 9th and 14th streets. Sample more than 20 types of barbecue, while listening to dozens of bands, including The Wailers, Trouble Funk and EU. 
When/Where/Cost: The battle runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the event and available online. 

Innoskate
What: Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen and other skateboarding legends participate in The National Museum of American History’s Innoskate. Hawk will donate his first skateboard to the museum, as well as participate in panel discussions and trick demonstrations.
When/Where/How Much: 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday on the National Mall. Free.

Courtney Love at The Fillmore Silver Spring
What: Courtney Love, former Hole lead singer and wife of late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, will play at The Fillmore Silver Spring on Saturday night. The infamous entertainer also will feature special guest Starred.
When/Where/How Much: 8 p.m. Saturday at The Fillmore Silver Spring. General admission tickets are $29 and available on the Fillmore’s website.

Arrested Development
What: The first (and only) hip-hop artists to win a Grammy for "Best New Artist" will seek to steal the spotlight away from the other "Arrested Development" in the news lately (the sitcom that recently returned with new episodes on Netflix). The band has reunited and will play at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage.
When/Where/How Much: 6 p.m. Saturday at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage. Tickets are free.

D.C. Bourbon Bash
What: A whiskey-themed bar crawl around Dupont Circle, featuring eight different bourbons at eight different bars. Food and other drink specials also are on tap.
When/Where/How Much: Noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 22, beginning at Buffalo Billiards. Tickets are $55/$75 and are available on the DC Bourbon Bash website.

Fete de la Musique
What: Enjoy blues, Latin, jazz, folk and reggae music at the Malmaison restaurant on the Georgetown Waterfront. The event mimics the French national celebration of the arts where public spaces are taken over by performers.
When/Where/How Much: 2 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday at Malmaison (3401 Water St. NW, Washington, DC). The event is free until 11 p.m., and $10 after that.

Dawson's Doggy Dip
When: Noon on Saturday, June 22.
Where: Dawson’s Market, 225 N. Washington St., Rockville.
What: Bring your furry friend to Dawson’s Market for a dip. Dawson’s provides the shampoo and water. You bring the dog and do the washing. There will be samples and local vendors. This is an outdoor event and is weather permitting. Free.

Dublin 5
When: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Friday, June 21.
Where: Rockville Town Square.
What: Irish rock band performs as part of the free Rockville Town Square summer series. Free.

Lox & Vodka—Jewish Soul Music Rockville’s Free for All in the Parks
When: 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 25.
Where: Thomas Farm Community Center, 700 Fallsgrove Dr., Rockville.
What: Klezmer, "Heavy Shtetl" and more. Part of Rockville’s Free for All in the Parks series. In case of inclement weather, this show will move inside to the Thomas Farm Community Center gym. Free.

Storytime on Lake Needwood: Beavers Gnaw
When: 1 p.m., Friday, June 28.
Where: Lake Needwood. Meet at the boathouse, 5700 Needwood Lake Circle, Rockville.
What: Take a story time cruise around the lake aboard the Needwood Queen pontoon boat. Each month, park staff will read a different story onboard and look for what’s swimming, soaring and standing nearby. For children 3 and older.
Cost: $2 per adult, $6 for kids; no underage siblings, please. Register at ParkPASS.org.

Reception: ‘Speed and Pressure’
When:  6 p.m., Friday, June 28
Where: VisArts at Rockville, 155 Gibbs St., Rockville.
What: A second reception for the exhibition “speed and pressure,” on view in the Kaplan Gallery (second floor) through July 27.
