C&O Canal National Historical Park, which preserves the canal era and transportation history of the region, offers more than 150 miles of recreation and nature for area residents. The park has six visitor's centers that offer various types of educational and interpretive programs. Boat rides are offered in the spring, summer and early fall, and mule-drawn public and private canal boat rides are also available. Entry fees for the park vary by length of stay; patrons can purchase three-day or annual passes.
