4935 Bar and Kitchen Set To Open On Cordell

Restaurant in former Tragara space will feature modern American cuisine and high-end cocktails.

Correction: This story has been updated to indicate the restaurant will open next week for private parties. It's expected to open for full dinner service in January. 4935 Bar and Kitchen, a new restaurant planned for the former Tragara space on Cordell Avenue, is expected to open its second floor next week for private parties. Many of the events have already been booked, according to general manager Bourke Floyd.  The restaurant will serve up modern American food with some French and Indian influences,  It's expected to be open for full dinner service in January. “Our intention is not to be white tablecloth, fine dining, but to be sophisticated and fun at the same time,” Floyd said. Tragara Ristorante Announces Closing

A new fusion restaurant is set to open in its place by the end of the year.

A local Italian institution is moving out to make room for a young new-comer with a fusion twist.  Bethesda Magazine’s Table Talk blog reports that Tragara Ristorante—“the longtime Italian eatery with an upstairs banquet room that’s hosted many a Bethesda Bar Mitzvah”—will close at the end of this month. A new restaurant with a French-Indian flair will take its place at 4935 Cordell Ave. in Bethesda. Tragara has served customers for 26 years,  the last 18 of them under the ownership of Claude Amsellem. Issues with Amsellem's health have caused the restaurateur to close the business and cancel any private parties scheduled after October, according to Bethesda Magazine.
