Delaney May Have Beaten Bartlett Even Without Montgomery County

Bartlett said gerrymandering cost him the congressional election but the numbers tell a different story.

Capital News Service Congressman-elect John Delaney won Maryland's 6th District race on Election Day with the support of heavily Democratic Montgomery County, as expected, but a surprising number of Western Maryland voters voted to oust long-time incumbent Roscoe Bartlett, an analysis of the numbers shows. Now, those voters expect Delaney to champion their causes. Delaney campaigned by saying he was determined not to "balkanize the district"—splitting it into subgroups that could be targeted with tailored messages. That strategy appears to have paid off. 6th District Debate Brings Promises of Bipartisanship Amid Partisan Attacks

Republican Rep. Roscoe Bartlett and Democrat John Delaney met Sunday for their third debate at Temple Beth Ami in Rockville.

Roscoe Bartlett and Democrat John Delaney on Sunday night cast themselves as political independents in the race for Maryland's 6th Congressional District during a debate that still featured the kind of partisan bickering dominating national politics. While I abhor the patently corrupt gerrymandering that put me into the 6th District, I should look at the bright side; I now can vote AGAINST the troglodyte, Roscoe Bartlett. It's a sad state of affairs when I need to consider each race for office at the polls in terms of whom to vote against, instead of whom to vote for, but that's what it has become.   more ›

6th District Democrats Debate Community Issues

  Democratic candidates for Maryland's new 6th Congressional District faced off in a two-hour debate Sunday at the Montgomery College Germantown campus. After introducing themselves, candidates answered questions on 12 topics including healthcare, immigration and energy policy. Charles Bailey, John Delaney, Sen.
