Sexual Assault, Armed Robbery, Burglaries Reported In Potomac

1st District Montgomery County Police Department releases crime information for Dec. 17-26.

A sexual assault, an armed robbery and two residential burglaries were reported in Potomac in the Montgomery County Police Department crime summary for the period of Dec. 17-26. Police: Masked Man Robs Potomac M&T Bank With Hand Gun

Police are looking for a suspect believed to have committed a Dec. 22 armed robbery.

Police are looking for a masked suspect who robbed the M&T bank in the Cabin John Shopping Center. First District police officers responded to a call from the M&T Bank located at 11325 Seven Locks Road just after 9:20 a.m. on Dec. 22. According to a police report, a male suspect wearing a mask entered the bank, approached a teller showing a small black handgun, and demanded money. He was given an undisclosed amount of cash and fled from the bank. The suspect is described as a male, of unknown race, over six feet tall, with a medium build. Beltsville Man Pleads Guilty to Potomac Bank Robberies

Samuel Lewis also pleaded guilty to robbing five other county banks.

Samuel Lewis, age 44, of Beltsville, MD, last week pleaded guilty to twice robbing the SunTrust Bank on Falls Road in Potomac. Lewis entered the SunTrust Bank branch, located at 9812 Falls Rd. in Potomac, on Jan. 7, 2011 and demanded money while threatening to shoot a bank employee. Lewis took $5,020 from the bank. On July 21, 2011, Lewis again entered the SunTrust Bank and took $3,564, after threatening to shoot an employee. Lewis also pleaded guilty to robbing banks on five other occasions in Silver Spring and Gaithersburg. According to his plea agreement, Lewis walked into a bank on seven occasions from Oct. 14, 2010 to Sept. 2, 2011 and pointed a handgun at a bank teller, demanding money. SunTrust Bank Robbery Suspect Linked to 11 Bank Robberies, Police Say

The suspect is believed to have committed eight robberies in Maryland and three in Virginia.

Montgomery County Police believe the same suspect is linked to two two armed robberies of the SunTrust Bank in Potomac, in addition to six more armed robberies at banks throughout Montgomery County and three bank robberies in Virginia. The suspect is believed to have committed eight armed bank robberies in Montgomery County between July 2, 2010, and July 21, 2011, police said. Montgomery County Police Robbery detectives have been working with police detectives in Virginia and believe the same suspect is responsible for two bank robberies in Alexandria and a bank robbery in Arlington.
