VisArts Hosts Congressional Arts Competition

Work by high school artists from the 8th District is on display at VisArts in Rockville through May 17.

VisArts in Rockville is hosting an exhibit of work entered in the Congressional Art Competition for High School Students sponsored by U.S. Rep. Christopher Van Hollen Jr.'s office now through May 17. This is the 10th year that Van Hollen (D-Dist. 8) of Kensington personally congratulated the young artists, presenting them with certificates of participation and recognition in the national competition, which began in 1981. An awards ceremony on April 30 at VisArts included competition participants, their families, teachers and competition sponsors and organizers. It's All About Drawing at Yellow Barn Weekend Exhibition

First Annual Yellow Barn Drawing Exhibition will be held Aug. 20-21.

This weekend's First Annual Yellow Barn Drawing Exhibition will showcase a medium that's diverse and sometimes a bit overlooked. "At Yellow Barn, painting tends to be the primary medium," said Jordan Bruns, studio manager of Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery. The exhibition intends to focus the spotlight on the strong drawing skills of members and instructors," he said. "To show drawing's importance to art world. It's not just a prerequisite to painting. By itself it's a beautiful art form." Anyone who's a member was eligible to submit up to three images of their drawings including pencil, pastel, pen and ink, charcoal.
