Letter to the Editor: Brookside Gardens, A Poem

Penelope Doyle Johnson shares her thoughts on the beauty of Brookside Gardens.

By Penelope Johnson I worked in Potomac for quite a few years (Bullis and Potomac United Methodist Church) and got to know a lot about its history and the people who live here now. Fascinated by the early history from when Potomac was an Indian trail and through the Civil War skirmishes right here in Potomac and how it affected families and church congregations, I am drawn back often. I live in Rockville and spend every waking minute writing or spending time with family, grandchildren and our dogs, some of whom come with rescue tales (tails!) of their own. _______ Gold hazel catkins in the wood and Lenten roses hovering at our feet bloomed slyly up to our surprise, a gardeners kiss beneath our eyes, that they are here before they should to…

Bethesda Row: Bonobos Returns, New Sweater Store, Bigger Lou Lou's

What new changes are happening to the Bethesda Row shopping scene?

The ever-evolving line up at Bethesda Row is in for a few more changes this spring, with recently vacated businesses making way for new ones. The game of merry go-round includes two location switches and one new business – buckle in for this whirlwind before you go spring shopping, unless you want to find yourself entirely confused: Don’t forget that fashionable moms can expect a new family store, Make Meaning, to open on Bethesda Avenue this spring. By our count, all these switches leave at least one opening on Bethesda Row for a new business or restaurant. What would you like to see come into Bethesda Row?

Churchill Students Present 'Bus Stop' in February

Will you see the high school's latest production?

The blizzards, warm fireplaces and chemistry of 1955 Kansas will roll into Winston Churchill High School Feb. 8 in a production of William Inge's dramatic comedy "Bus Stop." According to the production release on Patch: "Bus Stop" follows a group of strangers traveling by bus, stranded in a rural Kansas diner during a freak snowstorm.  The story follows eight characters as they experience frustration, tears and laughter, examine their own motivations and forge unlikely romantic connections in a single night.  "'Bus Stop' is an endearing, deceptively simple play that taps into universal feelings," said director Lynda Scionti. "I have wanted to direct this production for some time and it finally came together with this cast at Churchill. We …
