Richard Belzer's Musings On Bethesda Raise Eyebrows

Did Belzer burn Bethesda?

When Richard Belzer visited Bethesda Row Saturday during the "Writers on the Row" festival, the "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" star made a comment about Bethesda that raised a few eyebrows in the local media. “Here we are in Bethesda, Maryland,” Belzer said, according to the Washington Post's Reliable Source column. “What is Bethesda known for, beyond the hospital? Is that it?” Belzer, who penned “Dead Wrong: Straight Facts on the Country’s Most Controversial Cover-Ups,” was among celebrities including Georgetown Cupcake's Katherine Kallinis Berman and Sophie Kallinis LaMontagne and Bravo TV reality star Rosie Pope who made cameos during the four-day festival. Katherine and Sophie of Georgetown Cupcake Visit Bethesda Row

  Today bookworms and TV junkies will have the chance to meet Katherine Kallinis Berman & Sophie Kallinis LaMontagne, owners of Georgetown Cupcake and stars of TLC’s "DC Cupcakes." Writers on the Row kicked off Thursday in Bethesda, bringing bookworms face-to-face with favorite authors. The event continues today, combining author readings, book signings and deal specials to businesses along Bethesda Row. Author Spotlight: Peter J. Goodman

Children's author uses a cast of kitty characters to highlight the issue of bullying.

This week, Bethesda Patch continues our “Author Spotlight” series with a conversation with Peter J. Goodman, a writer of childrens literature. A resident of Washington, DC, Goodman is the author of “The First Day of School,” a book that highlights the issue of bullying using a cast of cats as characters. Publisher dreamBIG Press is partnering with the Montgomery County Humane Society to help promote the work. “The First Day of School” is the first in a children’s series dubbed “We’re All Different But We’re All Kitty Cats,” aimed to help elementary-aged children face issues including bullying, childhood fears, confidence, being different, and making friends.
