New Chinese Restaurant Set To Open In Jade Billows Space

China Jade Bistro may open before the end of the month.

Community mourning over the closure of Jade Billows in the Cabin John Shopping Center may soon end. A new Chinese restaurant is coming to town, and may open by the end of the month. China Jade Bistro is putting the finishing touches on its dining room, and awaiting inspections and licenses, according to co-owner Candy Yan. Yan hopes to have the store open within two weeks, she told Patch Friday. Many in the community have felt the loss of Jade Billows since it closed in late July after more than 20 years in business. "I have been a loyal patron for all these years. They were always willing to accommodate any dietary needs and even made special batches of boiled rice and chicken breasts for my dogs when they had bad tummies," Patch user …

As a long-time resident, I remember the Schezuan Garden, that preceded Jade Billows in the space! They had excellent Schezuan dishes. Jade Billows had good food, but never rose to the spicy excellence of the Szechuan Garden. However, for many years Jade Billows was our "go-to" restaurant, always accommodating and friendly, with quality preparation of every dish. They are sadly missed, and I hope …   more ›

Retro 1940s-Themed Grill Plans January Opening In Potomac

Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night snacks. Will you dine at Potomac's newest restaurant?

Benny Fischer promises big portions and reasonable prices when he opens Benny’s Bar and Grill later this year. The new restaurant will soon start renovating the former Popeye's space of the Cabin John Shopping Center, giving it a 1940s retro makeover and an 1800-square-foot addition to allow for seating for 200 or more guests, according to Fischer. The restaurant will honor Fischer’s late grandfather, Benny Bortnick, a presence in the DC wrestling scene in the 1940s.  The casual, sit-down eatery will culminate 30 years of experience in the restaurant and food service industries, Fischer said. With a menu comprised of steaks, chops, chicken, seafood, burgers, sandwiches and more, the dining experience will be similar to those of Houston’s…

Jade Billows Closes Doors For Good

"I have one life to live. I want my life to be colorful, not only restaurants," owner Richie Lee said.

By the close of business hours Wednesday, a Cabin John institution will be closing its doors for good. After more than 20 years in business, the owners of the popular Chinese restaurant, Jade Billows, say they're ready to close up shop. The restaurant will remain open Wednesday through regular business hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. "Twenty years here, it feels like a mission accomplished," said owner Richie Lee. Despite community rumors of high costs pushing the restaurant out of business, Lee said it's really just a matter of not wanting to run the business anymore. "I have one life to live," Lee said. "I want my life to be colorful, not only restaurants." Jade Billows is a popular restaurant for locals, continually receiving high praise …

Sadly, I can now report that Jade Billows's replacement, China Jade Bistro, isn't very good. My first visit I had hot and sour soup, always excellent at Jade Billows, and the broth was weak and watery. They have only one kind of meat in the dumplings, suggesting that they're not made at the restaurant. Next visit I had ma po tofu, and it was unlike any I've ever seen. Best advice--just stay away …   more ›

BGR The Burger Joint Opens Its Doors on Saturday

Grab a burger at Cabin John Shopping Center's newest restaurant when it opens on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Potomac’s newest burger restaurant will open its doors to customers on Saturday, adding one new restaurant to the mix in Cabin John Shopping Center. BGR The Burger Joint, 7949 Tuckerman Lane will open on Saturday at 11 a.m. The restaurant, which was originally expected to open in Potomac by mid-March, had to push back its opening to around May 29 because of delays caused by “normal construction,” said Mark Bucher, the founder of BGR The Burger Joint. The early completion of the construction is allowing for a May 21 opening. Construction on the location started in the beginning of February, Bucher said in a previous interview. The Potomac BGR The Burger Joint will be the chain’s largest location. With a capacity for 80 people, Bucher said …

Burger Restaurant Coming to Cabin John Shopping Center in March

BGR The Burger Joint will start construction on their new space in two weeks.

Potomac residents will soon be able to enjoy a new burger spot in town with the opening of BGR The Burger Joint in Cabin John Shopping Center. BGR The Burger Joint will be going into Hallmark’s former location next to the CVS Pharmacy in Cabin John Shopping Center and will be open for customers in mid-March, said Mark Bucher, the founder of BGR The Burger Joint. The new Potomac location will hopefully alleviate some of the crowds at nearby locations in Bethesda and Dupont Circle, Bucher said.  “A lot of people have been driving from Potomac to Bethesda to go to BGR, so we decided to come to them,” Bucher said. “We want to make it more convenient for people to get our product.”  To no surprise, BGR The Burger Joint specializes in a variety …

Well the place is now open, only when I went in today it was about 90F inside, the girls at the register were very slow, there was a line of about 20 people. When I got to the cashier she knew almost nothing about the menu. It took 15 min to get the order done and then it was not done correctly. They put the order aside and told me to wait. They were really busy though. Hope they get some trained…   more ›
