Santa, Cabin John Fire Fighters Travel Potomac Neighborhoods

See where Santa will be visiting in your neighborhood.

Santa continues a 32-year-old tradition this season as he joins with the Cabin John Volunteer Fire Department to visit children of all ages around Bethesda, Cabin John and Potomac. Accompanied by firefighter-elves, Santa will make his way through several communities collecting toys for the National Center for Children and Families in Bethesda, and the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. Atop a decked out fire truck, Santa and the firefighters will traverse various areas nightly from 6 to 9 through Dec. 21. This week's schedule includes Seven Locks Hills, Congressional Manor, Carderock Springs, The Palisads, Avenel, Congressional Country Club Estates and Cabin John. Santa, Cabin John Fire Fighters Collect Toys For Tots

See where Santa will be visiting in your neighborhood.

More Than 20 Saved in Water Rescues This Year, Many From Harrowing Close Calls

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services have responded to dozens of water calls this year.

Rescue workers have saved 23 people in water rescue calls this year, including a victim swept down a waterfall who clung to a rock, according to the latest numbers from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service.  As of Aug. 22, MCFRS river rescuers responded to 37 incidents according to a report from the river rescue team. Most of the calls came from the Potomac River area, including 12 swift water rescue calls, nine calls from the Billy Goat Trail, which passes along the Potomac River, and another three calls from the C&O Canal and towpath. Other calls were made for incidents in the county’s lakes or due to flash flooding and poor driving conditions. Santa Claus is Coming to Potomac

The Cabin John Volunteer Fire Department will escort Santa around the Potomac area to collect donations for children.

The Cabin John Volunteer Fire Department continues its 30 year tradition of driving Santa Claus through the Potomac community tonight through Dec. 23. With Santa perched atop the department's bright red fire engine, the Cabin John volunteer firefighters will make their way through the community collecting toys for United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program and the National Center for Children and Families in Bethesda. In return for donations, Santa will hand out candy canes. Residents are also invited to to the delivery of the toys to the National Center for Children and Families on Greentree Road in Bethesda on Christmas Eve.
