Verizon Wireless Retailer Opens in Potomac

Churchill grad and businessman Matt Harris opened his new store in Potomac Village.

Waiting an hour for a customer service appointment at the new locally owned Verizon retailer is now a problem of the past. Potomac Village’s newest store—The Wireless Warehouse—opened its doors Aug. 8 in the Potomac Village Shopping Center. Residents will be able to upgrade their phone to the newest, hottest models, purchase accessories and service their current phones without waiting in a long line for hours. New models of phones are $25 off, and cell phone accessories are 50 percent off. The new store, in the former Plants, Etc., location, adds diversity to the stores that surround the River and Falls roads intersection. Maryland Cell Phone Ban Starts Friday

The new cell phone ban will begin on Friday and some Potomac residents don't think it's strict enough.

Drivers will see harsher penalties for talking on their cell phone while driving in Maryland because of a new law that will go into effect on Friday, but many Potomac residents don't think it is harsh enough. The law, which the Senate passed in April, makes it illegal for drivers to use a handheld phone while driving and requires the use of a hands-free device. It is a secondary offense, which means an officer can only give drivers a ticket if they have been pulled over for another driving violation. For those who are caught using their cell phones, it is $40 for a first offense and $100 for a second offense. I think Katherine Flanagan and others like her are hypocrites. They should get off their high horse and come back down to earth with the rest of us. She "admits" she's "much less" distracted when using her hands free device. But, she's still distracted right?
