Donations Needed For Christmas Breakfast Charity Event

Yearly Christmas breakfast for homeless and low-income residents has seen an uptick in guests this year.

An annual Christmas breakfast event for homeless and low-income residents is expanding this year, and the Original Pancake House is looking for donations of outerwear to offer its guests. The breakfast has become a Christmas tradition for the community's needy at the Bethesda and Falls Church Original Pancake House locations. Each year, the restaurant coordinates with social services agencies to put on the event, and nearly 100 volunteers help out with cooking, serving and cleaning up. About 300 guests attended last year, and this year that number has more than doubled to 700, according to Original Pancake House reps. More than enough volunteers will be on hand to help, but donations of coats, hats, gloves, hoodies and sweaters for kids …

Santa, Cabin John Fire Fighters Travel Potomac Neighborhoods

Santa continues a 32-year-old tradition this season as he joins with the Cabin John Volunteer Fire Department to visit children of all ages around Bethesda, Cabin John and Potomac. Accompanied by firefighter-elves, Santa will make his way through several communities collecting toys for the National Center for Children and Families in Bethesda, and the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. Atop a decked out fire truck, Santa and the firefighters will traverse various areas nightly from 6 to 9 through Dec. 21. Bethesda Chop't Location Raises Hundreds For Local Charity

The new Bethesda location of Chop’t Creative Salad Company opened with a nod to the season’s charitable giving, raising hundreds of dollars for the county’s largest food distribution center. More than 700 customers turned out to the store’s Wildwood Shopping Center opening, Nov. 14, featuring free food in exchange for a $2 donation to the Manna Food Center, according to Allison Anderson, development organizer for the charity group. The five-hour promotion raised a total of $1,504, directly benefiting Montgomery County’s main food bank, she said. “At one point, the [Chop’t general manager] told me they were making three salads a minute; over 300 in the first hour and a half,” Anderson said. “The line was out the door all afternoon and they …

Macy's Collects Santa Letters For Make-A-Wish Donation

Macy's will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, up to $1 million, for every Santa letter dropped at the Westfield Montgomery Mall store.

If only it were possible to help make the world a better place with just our greedy, materialistic thoughts. Apparently it is. The 5th year of Macy's Believe Holiday Campaign benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation is in full swing, allowing children of all ages to trade in Santa letters in exchange for $1 donations to the charity. Children of all ages can bring a stamped Santa wish letter to the Westfield Montgomery Mall Macy’s, addressed to Santa at the North Pole, and drop it into the Macy’s Santa Mail Letterbox. For each letter received, from now umtil Dec. 24, Macy’s will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish up to $1 million, according to a recent blog post on Patch. Thanksgiving Food Donation Opportunities in Montgomery County

Help a neighbor in need this Thanksgiving by donating food.

The Montgomery County Volunteer Center is seeking donations to help create Thanksgiving baskets for county residents in need. Items sought include: Donations will be accepted at A Wider Circle, located at 9159 Brookeville Rd. in Silver Spring, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. between Nov. 1 and 20, 2012. Catholic Charities of DC is looking to help feed low-income Montgomery County residents this Thanksgiving. Brides Against Breast Cancer 'Nationwide Tour of Gowns' to Stop in Metro Area

  Brides Against Breast Cancer, a national nonprofit group that sells donated wedding dresses to benefit people impacted by cancer will make a stop in the area from September 28-30 at the Dupont Circle Hotel in Northwest Washington, DC. Since 2002, Brides Against Breast Cancer has been actively selling gowns and makes upwards of 70 yearly stops on the “Nationwide Tour of Gowns.” More than 1,000 gowns, donated by individuals, organizations and companies, will be available for viewing. Everyone can rally around the fight to cure cancer, help kids in need or support victims of natural disasters, and all of these things are very worthy and important causes. Help Fight Hunger With Thanksgiving in February

A Montgomery County event allows for residents to give back to the needy, while having a night out at a local restaurant.

Montgomery County residents can dine out in Potomac, Bethesda and Rockville for a good cause on Feb. 28 as a part of Thanksgiving in February. Not only will patrons support local restaurants, but a portion of their check will help feed the hungry. Normandie Farm in Potomac will donate 10 percent of its lunch and dinner profits to the cause. The 20-year-old event will help 11 Montgomery County agencies provide emergency food to those in need through the nonprofit Interfaith Works. Restaurants in Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Wheaton, Kensington, Potomac and several other municipalities will donate up to 20 percent of their patrons' checks to the charity.
