La Carmata Nuove Christmas Chorale to perform with conductor Francisco de Araujo.
Forget about it being a school night and come out Sunday night to hear a renowned group of musicians fill Saints Peter and Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church in Potomac with beautiful sounds of the holiday. "A Christmas Carol Spectacular" will feature La Carmata Nuove Christmas Chorale, conducted by Francisco de Araujo, with an orchestra and soloists. This will be the second Christmas Concert with Maestro Francisco and his chorale at the church. According to Norma Najjar of the church’s Cultural Committee, more than 475 people attended last year, a full house. Four choirs will perform a holiday concert on Saturday afternoon.
The sound of children’s voices raised in sweet song is a cherished holiday tradition. One way to enjoy this tradition is with Glorystar Children’s Chorus’ 16th Annual Winter Concert on Saturday, Dec. 10, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Gaithersburg. Glorystar, founded in 1996, has performed at locations from the Kennedy Center to Washington National Cathedral, and has toured internationally including Taiwan, Italy, Hungary and Austria. More than 130 choristers, ages 5 to 18, sing in four groups: Beginning Choir (ages 5 to 7), Training Choir (ages 7 and up), Concert Choir (ages 9 and up), and Chamber Choir (ages 13 and up). Thursday is Veterans Day and in honor of the men and women who served the United States, Montgomery County is hosting a Veterans Day event. The celebration, which will take place at the Silver Spring Civic Building at Veterans Plaza, will feature the dedication of Veterans Plaza, a speech from County Executive Ike Leggett, panel discussions from area veterans and a free concert. Better Than Ezra will perform at the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship on Oct. 9.
New Orleans rock band, Better Than Ezra will be making a stop in Potomac for the Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship to help celebrate Military Appreciation Day on Oct. 9 at the Champions Tour's final major of the season. Tournament officials announced Friday that Better Than Ezra, best known for their chart-topping hits "Good" and "Desperately Wanting," will perform at a ceremony during Military Appreciation Day to salute military families.
