Harris Teeter In, Dunkin' Donuts Out: Bethesda's Month in Food

A roundup of the top food headlines this month in Bethesda.

February was a newsy month in the Bethesda food scene. Patch broke the news this month that Harris Teeter has signed a lease to be the grocery tenant at a new mixed-use development at 8300 Wisconsin Ave. The new grocery store is expected to open in 2015.  Also this month, we reported that Dunkin' Donuts is closing its Bethesda Avenue location after Bethesda Row management company Federal Realty did not renew their lease, which expires in May. The coffee shop has two new downtown Bethesda locations in the works. There was more news out of Friendship Heights from celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio, Bethesda favorite Persimmon re-opened with a new look, Aroma Espresso debuted at the Montgomery Mall, and the new Prohibition-style bar and grill …

Dunkin' Donuts Likely Will Close Doors on Bethesda Avenue

A local franchise group says Federal Realty will not renew a corporate lease when it expires at the end of May.

Bethesda Row management company Federal Realty will likely not renew the lease for the Dunkin’ Donuts location on Bethesda Avenue, according to the Luis Group, a company that operates the location and seven other Dunkin Donuts franchises in the area. Though the group hopes to keep the successful shop in its current location, Luis Group chief operating officer Boris Lander told Patch the Bethesda Avenue coffee shop will likely close when the lease expires at the end of May. Sweet: Friday Is National Donut Day

D.C.-area shops are handing out free donuts Friday.

Well, I... walked around the corner and I walked around the block and I walked right into a donut shop...  - from a children's song ----- It seems like there is a special day for just about everything these days and the donut is no exception. National Donut Day is Friday and in honor of the big day, donut shops across the nation — including some in Montgomery County — will hand out free donuts to customers. With more than 30 locations in the D.C. area, Dunkin' Donuts is on board with the holiday. For a free donut, you'll need to purchase a beverage (hot or cold), according to their "Behind the Beans" blog. You might want to do this in the morning.
