The new restaurant in The Collection at Chevy Chase will feature traditional Tex-Mex food in elegant surroundings decorated with one-of-a-kind artworks.
Come Friday, the vacant space next to Christian Dior on Wisconsin Avenue in Friendship Heights no longer will be vacant. Mi Cocina will open at 11 a.m. Friday at The Collection at Chevy Chase (5471-5481 Wisconsin Ave.). Its ribbon-cutting ceremony (at 10:30 that morning) will be attended by Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-District 18) and Sen. Brian Frosh (D- District 16). The restaurant is the latest location for a popular Tex-Mex chain that originated in Dallas, TX, more than 20 years ago. Friendship Heights' food scene—recently enlivened by the opening of Le Pain Quotidien—will have yet another new restaurant in just a few weeks: Mi Cocina will open at 11 a.m. on May 10 at The Collection at Chevy Chase (5471 Wisconsin Ave.), according to a restaurant news release. The Shops at Wisconsin Place plaza has a lively cafe again.
The wait is over. Le Pain Quotidien opened this week in the former Tynan Coffee and Tea location on the plaza of The Shops at Wisconsin Place. On Tuesday afternoon, the restaurant was bustling, and diners packed the patio in the pleasant spring weather. The 1,331-square-foot restaurant, which seats 34 diners inside and 38 outside on the patio, was constructed with "eco-friendly features such as LED light fixtures, recycled cast iron arched windows and a recycled church pew," according to a news release from Le Pain Quotidien. The business' name means "the daily bread," and its motto is "where friends and strangers alike come together." The wait is over: Potomac Pilates opened on March 1 at The Shops at Wisconsin Place in Friendship Heights, just above the Whole Foods store. "With diversified classes for men and women of all fitness levels, Potomac Pilates presents programs of 'Performance Pilates' and 'Barre classes,' plus fashion workout apparel," the studio reported in a news release. Classes are scheduled throughout the day, some starting as early as 6:15 a.m., and some beginning as late as 7:15 p.m. Between 1 and 4 p.m. are the "Happy Hour" classes, which cost half as much as non-Happy Hour classes. A woman was followed by a man in a minivan and on foot in Chevy Chase, police said.
Chevy Chase Village police and Montgomery County police issued an alert Wednesday about several incidents involving men approaching young girls and women in Chevy Chase and Silver Spring neighborhoods. The latest incident happened near Kirkside Drive and Grove Street in Chevy Chase at 7 p.m. Tuesday, when a young woman said a man followed her in a minivan, shone a flashlight on her and then began walking quickly toward her. Hours before, in nearby Friendship Heights, police said a man driving a maroon SUV approached a 13-year-old girl. On Friday, a man made “inappropriate comments,” to a group of girls playing outside in Silver Spring, police said. The wait for Chevy Chase's new cigar lounge is nearly over: Civil Cigar Lounge will open in the newly renovated Chevy Chase Pavilion on Monday, Jan. 14. Chevy Chase's lineup of luxury clothing shops has a new, sporty arrival: DJ Bennett, an appointment-only, high-end sportswear boutique. Located in the newly renovated Chevy Chase Pavilion, the store, "which opened its doors in September, specializes in luxury athletic wear and equipment ranging from snowboarding goggles with built-in GPS capabilities ($450) to neoprene surf suits ($650)," The Washington Post reported. Celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio's latest restaurant—once slated to open in mid-September—likely will open in a few weeks at the Chevy Chase Pavilion.
Good news for fans of celebrity chef Bryan Voltaggio: His much-anticipated new restaurant Range could be opening in just a few weeks in Friendship Heights, The Washington Post reported. While the restaurant's opening date is not yet set, patrons may reserve a spot for a "pop-in preview" on Dec. 15, 16 or 17, The Post reported. (Make reservations via the restaurant's website.) The restaurant once was scheduled to open in mid-September, but that date was pushed back to mid-November, Voltaggio’s publicist Melissa McCart told Bethesda Magazine in August. I don't mind another restaurant, but I'd love to see more cultural offerings, and more coverage of culture--music, museums, scupture, painting, dance and performance art. We go into DC for the Smithsonians, but to see the children cluster around the little fountain outside the Barnes & Noble makes me yearn for some public art or sculpture that would lift us up a litte during our daily grinds. …   more ›
