Democratic challenger receives key endorsements ahead of Sixth Congressional District race.
The Washington Post and The Gazette believe in change for Maryland's 6th Congressional District. The two regional publications endorsed political newcomer and Democratic challenger John Delaney over 86-year-old incumbant Republican Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, who is seeking re-election for an 11th term. According to The Washington Post: Mr. Delaney is an excellent candidate — shrewd, smart, hardworking and independent. He would be a standout representative for the 6th District and a marked improvement on Mr. Bartlett. We endorse Mr. Delaney... Mr. Delaney is a newcomer to politics, but he is exceptionally well-versed in domestic issues. Moreover, he has the problem-solving skills to be an unusually effective congressman. Mr. Bartlett, …

By David Gutman Capital News Service CHARLOTTE, N.C. - John Delaney, the Democratic challenger for the U.S. House seat in Maryland's 6th Congressional District, drew praise on Tuesday from many of the same Maryland Democratic politicians who had shunned him during his primary battle. The praise came at a luncheon for the Maryland delegation to the Democratic Convention in Charlotte. Delaney was the luncheon's keynote speaker. Delaney emerged as the Democratic candidate after winning a hard-fought and expensive April primary, in which most of the state's Democratic elite, including Gov. Martin O'Malley, backed his opponent, state Sen. Robert Garagiola. The invitation to speak at the luncheon, where he sat next to Gov. Martin O'Malley, …

Anthony Brown and Attorney General Doug Gansler, among others, to cheer on their Democratic Party representatives. After thanking the crowd for its tremendous support on a rainy evening, O’Malley quickly turned his attention to the 6th Congressional District. “I am 100 percent for John Delaney,” the governor said. “He’s going to be a great congressman not only for the 6th …

In final hours of 6th District primary, Delaney, Garagiola and Pooran cross paths in Rockville.
Near the end of a contentious, expensive campaign, three contenders for the Democratic nomination for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District took time to pose for a photo. At the request of a campaign volunteer, John Delaney, Robert J. Garagiola and Milad Pooran took a break from greeting a steady flow of voters at Robert Frost Middle School in Rockville early Tuesday evening and stood shoulder to shoulder. The men said they heard similar concerns from voters on the campaign trail, especially about the need for jobs. But each also discussed how the campaign played out in terms of the criticism that two of the candidates lobbed at each other. “Unfortunately the media has focused on the mudslinging more than on the issues and candidates,” …

By Madeline Marshall Capital News Service Endorsements are hot commodities in the very competitive 6th Congressional District, but none is bigger than the one just snagged by Democrat John Delaney: former President Bill Clinton. In a statement released Monday, the former president called Delaney "a lifelong Democrat who has real life job creation experience ... His commitment to equality, economic growth and fairness will make him an effective advocate for the middle class, a strong advocate for job creation, and a trusted ally for reform." The "lifelong Democrat" backing from Clinton might help deflect criticism of Delaney's contributions to Republican Rep. Andy Harris, who knocked off Democratic incumbent Rep. Frank …

Wealthy entrepreneur John Delaney has been the largest spender in the Democratic primary, spending more than four times as much as his rivals combined, with $118,000 of his own money. We had the fortune of having Mr. Delaney speak at our small business networking meeting. Everyone in the room was wowed by him. He does not need to throw mud at Roscoe Bartlett. The man has great business sense and is laser focused on what is needed to help turn around the budget and create jobs in Maryland. I would definitely make sure you take the time to look at his website or attend a venue …   more ›
