Grab some free grub from the Pepe food truck today.
Pepe, the popular food truck by celebrity chef and Bethesda resident Jose Andres, will be making a stop for lunch in Friendship Heights Wednesday. Even better, the mobile eatery will serve up free sandwiches to the first 100 people who stop by. Sandwich flavors du jour include shredded beef, eggplant, fried chicken, Spanish pulled-pork, and a club. The food truck, which serves up “flautas,” or Spanish sandwiches, has been feeding hungry Washington, DC residents since March of 2012. The truck made its debut in Montgomery County last October. Prices range from $8 to $14. A chicken noodle soup will also be on the menu. Wednesday, Pepe will be serving up the free sandwiches in partnership with Equinox gym. Celebrity chef and Bethesda resident named among the Daily Meal's 50 most powerful people in food.
Jose Andres has been named among America's most powerful foodies. Andres was named by the Daily Meal, which recently came out with its list of America's 50 Most Powerful People in Food. The celebrity chef and Bethesda resident came in 18th on the third annual list, which highlights those who "affect what and how and where and why we eat." Andres is also a successful restaurateur behind eateries including downtown Bethesda's Jaleo. He also launched popular food truck Pepe. Also named on the list was First Lady Michelle Obama (No. 24), McDonald's head Donald Thompson (No. 7) and chef and restaurateur Wolfgang Puck (No. 36). Read the full story at the Daily Meal.

Celebrity Chef Jose Andres will park his food truck today in Bethesda
A new lunch option rolls into Bethesda today. Celebrity chef Jose Andres confirmed via Twitter that his popular food truck, “Pepe,” will park in front of Jaleo on Woodmont Avenue in Bethesda to start serving lunch at 11:30 a.m. The truck will serve Spanish sandwiches, called “falutas,” with selections including the Club Barcelona -- thinly sliced chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and shallot mayonnaise -- and the Butifarra Burger -- a Spanish pork burger with alioli and brava sauce.
