#MoCo Online: Dan Snyder Vows 'Never' to Change Washington Redskins Name

NFL owner weighs in on the debate over the team's name.

Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder made a bold statement in an interview with USA Today last week about the controversy over the name of his pro football franchise. "We'll never change the name," Snyder told USA Today. "It's that simple. NEVER—you can use caps." Washington-area residents had something to say about that on Twitter. @makingcjc, of Arlington, VA, supported Snyder: "'We’ll never change the name, it’s that simple NEVER - you can use caps' Never thought I'd say this, but Thank-You Dan Synder." @RolandoComedy, of Rockville, wondered why everyone is so worked up about the issue: "Really? Is the name Redskins affecting your life? Is it keeping you awake at night? Is it hurting your inner child? #Redskins" @JadoreCherelle, of …

This week, a Capital News Service special project examines “The Other Redskins: High Schools Debate Dropping a Controversial Mascot.” CNS identified 62 high schools in 22 states that use Redskins as their mascot—eight fewer schools than cited by the Washington Redskins on the team’s website earlier this year. It is appalling that Mr. Snyder has not voluntarily stopped tarnishing the team with this ethnic slur. Undoubtedly if he were Native American he would recognize what a hurtful, pejorative label he forces his players to serve to their fans' embarrassment. If he wants loyal fans, give us a name of which we can be proud!   more ›

SPEAK OUT: Who Will You Root For in the NFL Playoffs?

Are the Ravens your team now?

The hearts of D.C. are broken and RGIII's knee might be too. But the playoff rolls on even if the Redskins don't. So we want to know what team you'll be rooting for to win the Super Bowl, or if you even care at all. (I mean, hockey's back just in time.) Will you be sporting purple to support the Maryland's other team, the Ravens? Who's your team now? Tell us in the comments.
