The two eateries will be offering new fare to Bethesda diners soon.

Japanese restaurant Yuzu opens Monday, April 29, in the former Divino spot at 7345 Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda, Bethesda Magazine reported: The menu at Yuzu—named after a pretty Asian citrus fruit (which decorates the awning outside the restaurant)—will feature a full range of sushi and sashimi, as well as combination of cold (i.e. albacore tuna tataki with spicy jalapeno sauce) and hot dishes (grilled mushrooms and scallops with butter). And, the nearby Food, Wine & Co. Foodie News: Costco's Kosher Dairy Bakery, Friendship Heights' New Eateries

Restaurant news from around Montgomery County and adjacent Washington, DC, neighborhoods.

Get caught up with the food scene in Montgomery County and adjacent Washington, DC, neighborhoods with 1 Meat, 3 Sides. This week, a kosher dairy bakery takes center plate. One meat: The Costco that opened earlier this month at the Wheaton mall includes a kosher dairy bakery, Wheaton Patch reported. What makes Costco's bakery different from the other kosher bakeries in the area is that it is dairy, instead of pareve. Pareve baked goods, because they are prepared without dairy or meat, can then be eaten at a meal with either dairy or meat, under kosher guidelines. "Following the same rules, Costco's dairy baked goods cannot be eaten at meals with meat, but its bakery is the only place nearby where you'll be able to find a kosher cheesecake…

Le Pain Quotidien Open in Former Tynan Spot

The Shops at Wisconsin Place plaza has a lively cafe again.

The wait is over. Le Pain Quotidien opened this week in the former Tynan Coffee and Tea location on the plaza of The Shops at Wisconsin Place. On Tuesday afternoon, the restaurant was bustling, and diners packed the patio in the pleasant spring weather. The 1,331-square-foot restaurant, which seats 34 diners inside and 38 outside on the patio, was constructed with "eco-friendly features such as LED light fixtures, recycled cast iron arched windows and a recycled church pew," according to a news release from Le Pain Quotidien. The business' name means "the daily bread," and its motto is "where friends and strangers alike come together." Founded in Belgium in 1990, the restaurant is "renowned for its pâtisserie goods—macaroons, madeleines, …

I visited Le Pain this afternoon. What an abysmal experience! It took more than 30 minutes to get two coffees and a pastry. The wait staff was non-existent and seemed to ignore everyone. If their service doesn't improve quickly, it won't be in business for long in Chevy Chase, which is a pity since it could be a real asset for the neighborhood.   more ›

Success in Bethesda prompted owners to open a Washington, DC, location, the Washington Business Journal reports.

Bethesda's Bold Bite Dogs and Fries soon will open a second location in Washington, DC's Union Station, the Washington Business Journal reports. The popular gourmet hot dog shop took over the former Ben & Jerry's space on Fairmont Avenue in 2011. The eatery was launched by Venezuelan brothers Alonso and Alvero Roche, and serves hot dogs and sausages inspired by the typical street food of Caracas.  Shop owners last year debuted a food cart, taking their South American cuisine to the streets of Bethesda. Good business at the Bethesda location prompted the expansion to Union Station, The Journal reports. The 400-square-foot shop will be located next to Crepe Lena and the Burger King in the lower level food court at Union Station. Read the …

Old Angler's Inn Gets New, Favorable Review

The Washington Post's Tom Sietsema revisited the Potomac restaurant and gave it a favorable review.

If you'd crossed off the Old Angler's Inn on your list of favorite local restaurants, you might want to rethink the place. Earlier this week, Tom Sietsema—dining critic for The Washington Post—published a favorable review of the restaurant, which has been revamped in recent years. Mark Reges, whose family has owned the property since 1957, said that it took his mother's passing in 2005 to make some changes. "Five years ago, he, wife Sara and brother Greg reopened the back garden. Next, they tackled the interior, starting with the ground floor. Out went those sad sofas, and in went a marble-topped bar purchased from the late Watergate Hotel," Sietsema reported. Then, in 2011, they got a new chef—31-year-old Nick Palermo, who has worked at …
