Patch has editors on the ground covering news all around Montgomery County. But even hard-nosed journalists have to stop to think about the holidays and what gifts to give their families and friends. Knowing the best places to shop might be seen as one of the side benefits of being a Montgomery County Patch editor who has the inside story on business and development. Plus, each Patch site has a business directory where you can find store hours, addresses, photos and user reviews. If you've made it through Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday with gifts still to buy, you've still got time left due to 2012's holiday shopping season of 32 days, perhaps the longest ever due to the way the calendar fell in 2012. What about those mom-and-pop businesses in our community and beyond that are the backbone of America’s economy? Just when do they get their day? That’s basically the question that was asked back in 2010 when the concept of Small Business Saturday was born. Small Business Saturday is “a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities,” the U.S. Small Business Administration explains on its website. Check out exclusive pictures of the newest Bethesda wine bar.

Doug Tomlinson, founder and CEO of Vino Volo, turned out Thursday, Nov. 8, to host the store preview despite the delay, and to accept the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development proclamation of "Vino Volo Day." "There's no better spot for you to be than Bethesda Row," said department representative Kristina Ellis. Vino Volo launched in Dulles Airport in 2005, later expanding to airports across the country. On Friday, the store will open a wine …

Small menu will feature eight entrees and eight appetizers, Washingtonian reports.
Famed chef Robert Wiedmaier's anticipated new restaurant, Wildwood Kitchen, is set for a Nov. 17 opening in Bethesda's Wildwood Shopping Center, Washingtonian reports. The menu will be small—featuring eight entrees and an equal number of appetizers, Washingtonian reports. The space will seat 55, along with a bar that will fit about 15. The chef, also behind Marcel’s, Brasserie Beck and Bethesda's Mussel Bar, is going "old-school" for Wildwood Kitchen—no online reservations or televisions, according to the report. Wiedmaier's latest restaurant will feature “south of France Mediterranean cuisine—we’re going very, very healthy on this menu,” he told Bethesda Magazine's Table Talk blog in February.
