The Mid-Atlantic Championship—which takes place at the TPC Potomac golf course at Avenel Farm starting May 27—will offer a series of tips—called "Fore U"—on social media to help followers make sense of the sport.
Golf enjoys strong popularity among area residents. With several good golf courses in the area, and a couple tournaments coming up, it's both a spectator sport and an active sport in Potomac. The Koa Sports Joe Horton Scholarship Fund recently offered three students baseball scholarships.
Joe Horton and his brother Andy successfully completed the 50-mile North Face Endurance Challenge last summer to raise money to establish a sports scholarship fund for unprivileged children, Patch reported. Through the Koa Sports Joe Horton Scholarship Foundation, three students from Washinton, DC, Maryland and Virginia recently were given more than $3,000 in scholarships to help them pursue their passions in baseball. “We couldn’t have planned it any better to get one [each] from DC, Virginia and Maryland, so we are spreading the joy,” Joe Horton said. The team won all nine of its spring 2013 games.
For the first time ever, Churchill High School's junior varsity boys lacrosse team had a perfect season, winning all nine of its games, according to a Patch source. The team finished its winning spring 2013 season Wednesday evening with a 9-3 win over Clarksburg. Congratulations to the 9-0 team and to Head Coach Dave Blumenthal!

The Mid-Atlantic Championship—a premier stop on the Web.com Tour—takes place at the TPC Potomac golf course at Avenel Farm May 27 through June 2. The Web.com Tour is the official path to the Professional Golfers' Association Tour, and identifies players "ready to compete and win on golf's greatest stage," according to a news statement on TPC's website. "[Three] out of four PGA TOUR players have Web.com Tour roots, and Web.com Tour alumni have amassed more than 350 PGA TOUR titles, including 17 major championships, and the last 3 FedEx Cup Titles," the statement reported. It’s a battle that has raged for decades. Is the name Redskins racist? Should the moniker and mascot of DC’s professional football franchise be changed? In recent months, the debate has been waged with unprecedented fervor. A federal trademark panel and Congress are considering the franchise’s trademark of the term, USA Today reported. Baseball season has officially arrived with Monday's opening day for the Washington Nationals. Though the collegiate season is still a few weeks off, here in Montgomery County, fans are gearing up for the season by checking out the recently-released Big Train roster. The summer collegiate baseball team plays in the Cal Ripken League, with teams from Rockville, Silver Spring-Takoma Park, Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Virginia. Players hail from colleges across the country and stay with host families during the summer in the Bethesda and Potomac areas. The Big Train has taken the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League Championship in three of the last four seasons and has donated more than $600,000 to improving baseball fields in Washington…

Undoubtedly if he were Native American he would recognize what a hurtful, pejorative label he forces his players to serve to their fans' embarrassment.
