Churchill High Fares Well in Newsweek Ranking

Once again, Winston Churchill High School was included in a national ranking of top high schools.

Montgomery County Public Schools have done it again—landing in top spots in a national ranking. This time, the ranking is the third annual list of America's Best High Schools, published by Newsweek and The Daily Beast. Potomac's own Winston Churchill High School came out as the second-best high school in the county. Seventeen of the county's public high schools made it on this list, which includes the nation's top 2,000 high schools—less than 10 percent of all the high schools in the country. And, the top six high schools in Maryland are all MCPS schools, according to a school system statement. Churchill Swimmers and Divers Shine at State Meet

Twenty-two of the state swimming titles were won by Montgomery County students.

Winston Churchill High School swimmers put in a good showing at the Maryland 4A/3A swimming and diving championship meet on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the University of Maryland’s Eppley Recreation Center, Reach for the Wall reported. Twenty-two of the state titles were won by Montgomery County students. From Winston Churchill High School, the team of Steve Ge, Kevin Gu, Harrison Gu and Austin Cole broke the state record in the boys’ 200-yard freestyle relay with a winning time of 1:27.51. "The same four boys won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:13.92," Reach for the Wall reported. Churchill Student Wins $1,500 Research Scholarship

Daniel Liu will go on to compete on a national level for thousands more in potential college scholarships.

A Potomac student has won the chance to present original research at a national sciences competition, and the opportunity to win thousands in college scholarships. Daniel Liu, a student at Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, was one of 200 competitors in this year’s Junior Science and Humanities Symposia regional program hosted at Georgetown University. The national program sponsored by the Academy of Applied Sciences and the U.S. Department of Defense is designed to engage students in science, technology, engineering and math through a scholarship competition and original research presentations.  Liu won the regional JSHS $1,500 scholarship award for his paper, titled "PGC-1a Protects Cardiomyocytes from Antiretroviral Drug-induced …
