NWS: Three to Five Inches of Snow Possible Thursday

The State Highway Administration has warned motorists to prepare for a “difficult” Thursday afternoon commute.

Regions within the Capital Beltway could see three to five inches of snow Thursday, and northern Montgomery County could see one to three inches. According to the National Weather Service, a low-pressure system is expected to move through the region Thursday afternoon, bringing with it the possibility for snow and hazardous weather. The State Highway Administration has urged motorists to prepare for a “difficult” Thursday afternoon commute. Montgomery County has been placed under a winter storm watch, in effect from Thursday morning to Thursday night. But there are those who doubt the snow will be as bad as the NWS predicts. UPDATE: Winter Weather Advisory No Longer in Effect

Montgomery County can expect about two inches of snow.

Update, Dec. 26 3:32 p.m.: Brookside Gardens has cancelled the Garden of Light show for this evening due to the weather conditions. Update, Dec. 26 12:55 p.m.: The Winter Weather Advisory is no longer in effect. The storm system continues its track towards the Atlantic coast. We can now expect a dusting to two inches of snow throughout Montgomery County. Update, Dec. 26 11:55 a.m.: Light snow is currently falling in Chevy Chase, Bethesda, Silver Spring and Takoma Park as a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY remains in effect through 6 a.m. Monday.
