Will you see the high school's latest production?
The blizzards, warm fireplaces and chemistry of 1955 Kansas will roll into Winston Churchill High School Feb. 8 in a production of William Inge's dramatic comedy "Bus Stop." According to the production release on Patch: "Bus Stop" follows a group of strangers traveling by bus, stranded in a rural Kansas diner during a freak snowstorm. The story follows eight characters as they experience frustration, tears and laughter, examine their own motivations and forge unlikely romantic connections in a single night. "'Bus Stop' is an endearing, deceptively simple play that taps into universal feelings," said director Lynda Scionti. A seventeen-year-old Potomac native was recently awarded a $1,000 “Busboys and Poets Scholarship” for the top senior portfolio in the Greater Washington region. Ruthie Prillaman, currently a senior at Richard Montgomery High School, will start at Yale University in the fall. She is also one of 13 students from the metro-area who were honored as National Medalists through the Scholastic Awards. National Medals are awarded to the top 1 percent of short stories, plays, poetry and essays chosen from over 200,000 submissions nationwide. Read more about Ruthie's success here.

More than 130 choristers, ages 5 to 18, will present a program spanning multiple cultures and musical styles.
Looking for an evening out this weekend? The Glorystar Children’s Chorus will present its Spring Concert on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theater in Rockville, MD. The show acts as a culmination of the program’s 16th season. Four choirs will perform children’s songs, folk songs, sacred, contemporary and classical music crossing multiple cultures, time periods and styles. The program’s youngest singers in the Beginning Choir will present two songs about “creepy creatures.” The Training Choir, with performers ages 7-11 years old, has been working on a Brazilian folk song called "Amoda da Gahrachinia.” The Training Choir and Concert Choir will combine to sing an uplifting song called "Antiphonal Alleluia." Winston Churchill High School may soon have a few Cappies to boast. Think of them as the Tonys for high school students. The Cappies program trains high school theater and journalism students to work as critics, attending shows at other schools, writing reviews and publishing those reviews in local newspapers. At the end of the year, the student critics vote for awards that are presented at a formal Cappies Gala. This year WCHS has seven nominations for its spring production of Legally Blonde. The nominations are as follows: The winners will be announced at the Cappies Gala at the Kennedy Center on June 10.

A 32-year tradition at the school shows off student art work completed over the school year.
Geneva Day School in Potomac will showcase the creativity of its students Friday in the school’s 32nd Annual Art Exhibition. From 5:30–7:30 p.m. visitors can stroll the school and enjoy paintings, sculptures, a Native American Indian Art Museum and an Art History Museum decked out with student work. Guests can also enjoy classical music will be performed by alumni, students and staff. Geneva Day School is located at 11931 Seven Locks Road off the intersection of Route 270 and Montrose Road. Work by high school artists from the 8th District is on display at VisArts in Rockville through May 17.
VisArts in Rockville is hosting an exhibit of work entered in the Congressional Art Competition for High School Students sponsored by U.S. Rep. Christopher Van Hollen Jr.'s office now through May 17. This is the 10th year that Van Hollen (D-Dist. 8) of Kensington personally congratulated the young artists, presenting them with certificates of participation and recognition in the national competition, which began in 1981. An awards ceremony on April 30 at VisArts included competition participants, their families, teachers and competition sponsors and organizers. The award-winning “Legally Blonde The Musical” hits the stage this weekend at Winston Churchill High School. Patch asked a few Churchill students to share their experiences working on the show. Based on the movie starring Reese Witherspoon, the musical tells the story of sorority president Elle Woods, who is dumped by her boyfriend for not being serious enough. Elle then takes a shot at Harvard Law to prove to her boyfriend she can be serious, but learns more about herself in the process. “This show is about all the hidden potentials that lie within all of us.
