  • Of the listing Victoria Gastro Pub

Food is good (pricy but worth it) and the beer list is insane.

Also, poutine with duck fat fries, and one of those "You'll probably die, but it'll be worth it" brunches.

I found this place a few years ago, not sure how. It's an unassuming little restaurant in a strip mall next to a little Jamaican takeout place (also good -- keeps changing names, but is still good). You'd never know from the outside that the inside is home to essentially a celebration of Cuban Americans (famous or otherwise), food and culture. The walls and tables are adorned with the names of famous Cuban-Americans from all walks of life, some of whom have eaten there and signed the plaques. Tables have inlaid news articles and pictures documenting a ton of history. It's incredible to look at while you peruse the menu and wait for your food.

As to the food. . . incredible, has a homestyle comfort food feeling, but with exotic ingredients, including some of the best fried plantains I've had anywhere. Personally, I'd say it's as good as Cubano's in Silver Spring or the new place in downtown DC (can't remember the name, but they make a sick mojito) but with a reasonable price[0]. I love both those places too, but they wider menu, bigger restaurant and more upscale atmosphere do come with a price. Also, it is a case of "Do I want a night out?" or "Do I want a comfortable meal in a cozy setting?"

Service is great too. For such a relatively small space, tables aren't on top of each other, and everyone is friendly and willing to do whatever you need. Definitely seems like a family run type of place.

Definitely the place if you love Cuban food!
